Oh the merry world around me
Through windows I spy juniper
At times the beauty stuns me
And sets me toward the ground
When I was made to working
The room was still collapsing
And ye were but a baby, lilac about thy crown
The work was always heavy
And friends they turned to rivals
There is no understanding
When no one is around
The melodies repeating in rhythms of my efforts
And ye were but a baby, lilac about thy crown
The tide is slowly turning and the universe aligning
To a new and simple finding that I need not make a sound
But everything about me would start itself to spoiling
And ye were but a baby, lilac about thy crown
When the season greets me
I’ll ring out like a hammer
No place will be unknowing
No word will be untrue
The wind will turn in eastern
And I'm to journey over
The long forgotten places to do what I must do
But soon into the future
The characters reversing
The children are rehearing
Dancing all around
My weariness is gathering
My legs too weak for roaming
And ye are but a baby, lilac about thy crown
My love is like a sunny brook
That shines out through the woodland
Impossible in beauty
Unlikely to be found
Yet ye must go away me
Your fortune, it is calling
And ye no more a baby, lilac about the ground
